Keep celery fresh longer!

Celery will stay fresh longer if you wrap it in aluminum foil before putting it in the refrigerator.

Avoid burning barbecue sauce onto meat

When barbecuing using a sugar-based sauce, brush the sauce on the meat during the last 5-10 minutes to avoid burning.

Clean and deodorize garbage disposal

Do you have an orange, lime or lemon past its prime? Cut it up into quarters or smaller (peels and all), throw them in the garbage disposal, turn the hot water on and turn the garbage disposal on. Turn off the garbage disposal when it sounds like it is done grinding up the citrus fruit. Voila! You have a clean, fresh-smelling sink drain and garbage disposal!

How to save money on books and magazines

My family went into a bookstore today and I couldn't believe the prices! For the price of one or two magazines, you could get a year long subscription sent to you mailbox. Some of the books I looked at where the same price as my monthly water bill!

To save money:

1. order subscriptions to magazines online with coupon codes

2. order used book through EBay or go to a used bookstore

3. Order used movies through EBay.

To get books, movies and magazines for free:

1. Go to the library! There are tons of books, movies and magazines that you could take out for 2-6 weeks at a time.

2. Check out your libraries website. You could put books, DVD's and magazines on hold, then the library will email you when they come in. No need to search the library! They put it on the hold shelf for you.

3. Be patient! Newer, more popular books, movies and magazines could take days, weeks or even months to come in, depending on how popular they are.

4. If you read your books on a tablet or other electronic device, most libraries have an option to download the book or magazine you choose. You get to keep the download for a few weeks before it goes off your list.

How To Make Home-Made, Natural Air Freshener

If you don't want to pay a lot for candles or scented plug-ins or you do not want to use candles because of the soot and whatever else they release into the air, you could make your own natural air freshener.  It's quick, easy and cheap!  Here's how:

1. Boil a pot of water.

2.  Add a sliced up lemon or orange.

3.  Add a pinch or two of ground cinnamon.

4.  Let it boil.

That's it!  The steam from the pot will rise into the air along with the fragrance.  One word of caution, watch the level of water in the pot and add water if it starts getting low.

How To Stop The Spread Of Germs And Viruses

It seems like at least one person in my household has been sick since it got cold out.  I checked a few tips online, in books and asked around and I found a few ways how you can stop the spread of germs and viruses.  Here are a few quick and easy tips:

1.  Get a Lysol Disinfecting wipe or a paper towel with Lysol on it and wipe down areas that people touch often like the keyboard, door knobs, phones and remote controls.

2.  Make sure the heads of toothbrushes do not touch each other.  If somebody is on antibiotics, throw their toothbrush away as soon as they finish the antibiotics.

3.  Wash hand towels and kitchen towels more often and in hot water (with bleach if needed) when there is a sick person in your house.

4.  Throw used tissues in the toilet to rid your house of the germs immediately.  For some reason, my dog loves used tissues and pulls them out of the garbage and scatters them around.  It's gross and unhygienic.

5. Have your family wash their hands for 20 seconds under warm water with soap every time they come home, blow their nose, touch someone who is sick, put laundry into the washer or transfer it into the dryer or cough or sneeze into their hands.  Clean the web between your fingers and under your fingernails too.

6. Use Lysol disinfectant spray on soft items that you cannot wipe like kids toys and blankets that are too big to fit in the laundry machine

Have Fun Teaching Your Kids About Geography Lesson

You and your kids will have fun with this geography lesson!

1. Get a large map of the world with distinct country borders and hang it up on the wall where children can see it.

2. Find tags labels on everything (clothes, food, household appliances, etc.) that show where that product came from.

3.  Take the tags and labels off and tape them to the map.

4.  Discuss where each item comes from and why.  If there are a lot of items from one area, talk about their similarities and why they all come from one location.

Easy, Cheap Way To Clean Your Bath Tub And Shower With Items Around Your House!

I have found a very cheap and easy way to clean the showers and bathtubs around my house with items I already have!  The trick is shampoo!

Fill a spray bottle 1/4 of the way with shampoo and the rest of the way with warm water.  Spray on your bathtub and shower and let sit for a few minutes, then scrub with a sponge.  It's that easy!

If you don't have a spray bottle, just pour the wet up a sponge and pour a little shampoo on it and then use that to scrub the tub and shower.

If you have a shampoo that you don't like, but you don't want to throw it out, this is the perfect way to use it up.

It makes sense since shampoo cleans oil and dirt from your hair, so why not from the bath tub and showers too!

Super-Cheap Stir-Fry or Lo Mein

To make a stir-fry, pour a little oil in a Wok and add cut-up chicken or beef.  Let the meat brown, then add cut-up veggies like carrots, onions, broccoli, tomatoes, mushrooms and anything else you can find in your fridge.  Cook and stir for a few minutes until vegetables are no longer crunchy.  Pour a small can of pineapples with juice if you like sweet and sour stir-fry's.  Add soy sauce or any other flavorings you would like.  Cook until liquid condenses.  In another pot, boil Lo Mein noodles, rice or Ramen Noodles in a pot.  Once the noodles or rice are done, drain them and add them to the vegetable and meat mix.  You will have an inexpensive meal!

Read the ingredient list!  If there are tons of ingredients and you can't pronounce most of them, it's not healthy!  Try to stick to foods that have no more than 5 ingredients total.

Simple Trick To Quickly Pick Healthy Foods When Grocery Shopping

A simple trick to get in and out of the grocery store with only healthy foods is to only shop the peripheries of the supermarket.  Try to avoid the middle aisles, since these contain processed foods.  Make a quick loop on the outer walls of the grocery store to pick up fruits, vegetables, meat and dairy.  You will end up saving time, money and it will be better for your health!

Great Tip For Completing Large Tasks

Break a large task into smaller, more attainable tasks.  Eat is easier to conquer a small task.  As you cross a task off your list, reward yourself.

For example:  Instead of saying I am going to clean the whole house from top to bottom, you could break it down into smaller tasks like vacuum carpets, dust, clean mirrors, wash bed sheets, organize closets, etc.

If a smaller task still seems large (organize closets) break it down even further.  You could break it down by doing one closet a day or just going through the hung-up clothes one day and then tackling the floor area the next and then the shelf above the hangers the next.

If you break the tasks down to make them as simple as possible and wrote the tasks down, you will be able to see the results faster!

Earn Money For Your Childs School With Box Tops For Education

I received a note from my son's school asking for Box Tops For Education Labels.  I always noticed them on boxes and packages of food, but didn't think anything of them.  Now, I cut every one of them I see off of the package and send them to my son's school.

It's as easy as putting the labels in your child's book bag and sending them to school!  The teacher takes them out of his book bag and sends them to the office where they collect them and send them in to exchange for money for the school!

It barely takes any time to do and my son's school benefits.  The school spends the money that they receive for the Box Tops For Education labels on things like books for the library, educational programs, playground equipment and school supplies.

Some brands that you can find Box Tops For Education on are: Pillsbury, Green Giant, Betty Crocker, Juicy Juice, Kleenex, Ziploc, Hefty, etc.

If you don't have time or money to spare or even if you do, this is a great way to help support your child's school!

Save Money On Cheese

Buy sharp or extra sharp cheese instead of the mild version of cheese.  You have to put a lot more mild cheese into a recipe or on top of pasta to taste it.  Sharp cheese is more flavorful, so you don't need to use as much to get a robust flavor.   Not only will you save money, but you will also trim your waistline since you are not using as much cheese!
