How To Layer Food In Your Slow Cooker

Have you ever wondered what order you should put different ingredients in your slow cooker?  Here is an easy way to remember how to layer food in your slow cooker.

Bottom layer - Place the densest, toughest vegetables at the bottom of the cooker where temperatures are the highest, for example: turnips, parsnips, cabbage, potatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash.

Middle Layer - Place meat and semi-hardy vegetables like fennel, carrots, green beans, bell peppers and celery will cook through there without going soft.

Top Layer - Place delicate vegetables like broccoli, spinach, peas, zucchini and herbs on top during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
