How many calories do you need to cut or burn to lose a pound?  The answer is 3500 calories per pound.

If you want to lose a pound a week, you will need to cut or burn 500 calories a day.

Conversely, if you would like to gain a pound a week,  you will need to take in 500 more calories a day.
