How To Nickel And Dime Yourself Out Of Debt: Cut Cable

Well, we didn't cut cable completely.  We were paying $120 a month for cable channels, including HBO, Showtime and Cinemax.  We moved into our house almost a year ago and we got a great deal with the cable company.  Those deals are now running out, so we needed to find a way to cut costs.

We saw that the premium channel deal had run out and we were now paying $40 in our cable bill just for those channels.  I called the cable company and let them know that I wanted to cut the premium channels.  They offered a deal, but in reality, we don't need that many channels, so we cut the premium channels completely.

That 10 minute phone call saved us $40 per month plus tax!  Our bill went down from $120 to $64!  We had rented a money once a month too, so that is why the number was so high.  We will not be doing that again.

If we find that we don't watch that much TV, then we might cut cable out completely saving another $64!

Has anyone gone cable free?  Do you just not watch TV anymore or do you get it other ways, like Netflix or streaming from your internet-enabled devices?

Let me know your experience!
